Royal family receives brand new Apple Watch Series 4

The etymology of the word “enclosure” dates back more than 3,500 years and includes both “in” and “place.” It takes on another meaning today, when a service designed to introduce a new Apple watch to members of the royal family.

The tech company is not one to miss an opportunity to court the royals and — with marriage equality increasingly mainstream in the U.K. — the company didn’t miss a beat when it came to joining up with Prince William and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to present the Apple Watch Series 4 to the Windsor family. The company has even courted the queen, as she’s been using the new wearable since it launched.

Prince William attended a preview of the service in London on Thursday. He attended with his two sons, Prince George and Prince Louis, and two of his eight grandchildren, Prince George and Princess Charlotte. All four were photographed receiving the watches and the public will now have an opportunity to view and buy the devices, too.

With cameras rolling as his guests accepted the device (presumably one of them also received it as an actual gift), the only non-royal present on the table was a large cheese wheel.

Admittedly, many pendants and trinkets were also included in the presents to the new generation of Apple Watch wearers.

The royal family has a well-established relationship with Apple over the years. The royals have long been customers of Apple products, including Apple devices themselves. The new device was presented to the royal family last month — just one day after the unveiling — by John Lewis and Lester Hodgson, the company’s head of watches and other watches. The device was given to Queen Elizabeth II to mark her official birthday, according to the BBC.

Members of the royal family can already find the new Apple Watch Series 4 on the shelves of select Apple stores and the company is planning on opening more stores in the U.K. over the coming months.
