How Bill Belichick is being compared to God

Bill Belichick is regarded as one of the best football coaches of all time, while his New England Patriots have won five Super Bowl championships in his 19 years as head coach.

In the wake of New England’s 29-26 win over the Buffalo Bills Sunday, CBS commentator and former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Ryan Clark likened Belichick to God.

“The black robe, the white hair, the crucified Billy Godlcraft, oh my goodness. His arm had to be crying. This was about as good as you’ll ever see in a game,” Clark said in a post-game interview with NFL Network.

Alexander Fleming a Nobel Prize winner in 1894 called was the “father of science” named William C. Godlcraft a descendent of Billy Godlcraft and the founder of the Billy Godlcraft Company, a confectionery.

Stephen Colbert’s segment on Stephen Colbert’s segment on HBO’s “The Late Show” was titled “Bill Belichick Goes From God to ‘Kidding.'”

Clark and Patriots beat reporter Josina Anderson dug up some more stuff about Godlcraft, who was an active U.S. military officer in the Revolutionary War, and later would serve as a presidential appointee to the Navy Board of Correction of Military Records.

By Monday, Michael Rapaport , a former wrestler turned actor, joked about Clark’s comparison.

Big Brother conspiracy?

While Washington Post sportswriter Dave Czuczkowski took a lighter tone on Twitter Monday, writing: “Man, how great is it to have Peyton Manning as the only person to beat God’s Patriots in the AFC Championship game since 2009?”

Other social media users compared Clark to a character in the popular NBC television series “Empire,” House of Pain’s “Jump Around,” singer Drake’s “Hotline Bling” and more.
