New York-based designer and entrepreneur Ken Grachan, the Creative Director of Design Miami, unveiled the new luxury code, Miami, with the show’s 11th edition. Designer collections were carefully curated to create a cohesive whole, with materials from Africa, Argentina, Peru, Colombia, Australia, Russia, Nigeria, Indonesia, Mexico, and Japan. The Russian brand Levi`s, New York fashion brand Moynat, Israeli brand Itv, Australia-based Ivan, Brazil’s HB Holt, Belgium-based Dineau, and Canadian label Alato collaborated with fashion and lifestyle brands like Tiffany & Co, Vogue, Kiehl`s, and J. Crew to create bespoke pieces. Several designers produced accessories with limited, only-seen on-display runs, including Victoria Beckham, Tara Rose, Ana Beatriz Barros, Jeremy Scott, and Alexander Wang. Design Miami, which bills itself as the largest design fair in the Americas, welcomed the world’s most admired designers to Miami, allowing them to introduce the world to the Miami brand — a stylish but more accessible alternative to Paris or Milan. This year’s Design Miami also celebrated the show’s 30th anniversary with a new Millennial style. Miami was the first Brazilian city to have a stand at the fair, and designers like Alex Barbosa, Sanaa Hamzawi, Pierre Balmain, Amanda Turnbull, and Daniel M. Buren produced pieces for the occasion.
