Denmark’s ambassador to US in hotel room with golfer accused of sexual assault

(WTNH)–A spokesperson for the Danish Embassy in Washington D.C. has confirmed that Denmark ambassador to the U.S. Mads Gilbert visited Thorbjorn Olesen, one of Denmark’s top golfers, in a Miami hotel room at 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, according to the Danish Metro.

Olesen, who recently won a major tournament, was accused of sexually assaulting a woman who complained to the Embassy staff. The Embassy spokesperson says the ambassador will confer with authorities as the Embassy’s only priority and to respect the privacy of all parties involved.

Olesen was traveling with his girlfriend, two other people and two Danish citizens on a Dreamliner jet to a tournament in St. Louis, Mo.

German travel agency Air Berlin said that a re-booking service for passengers on Olesen’s charter flight had been canceled after the incident.

Olesen competed in this year’s PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament, finishing 14th.

Officials at Coastal Carolina University have revoked the scholarship of Thorbjorn Olesen after allegations of sexual assault. Olesen began his golfing career at the university in 2005 and was to graduate this spring. The university has offered him a full refund. Olesen went to high school in Denmark.
